We have an interesting collection of heritage diesel locomotives (ie pre-1950s), one of which is illustrated below, and we try to arrange these services specially to give you opportunities to see some of them running.

2022 is a particularly important year for these heritage diesel locomotives, as it marks the 90th anniversary of the two oldest entering service. We have therefore themed our Autumn gala around this anniversary, and have timed it for the first weekend in September, since this is also the first weekend of the National Heritage Open Days, which for this year have the theme of "Astounding Inventions". Both this gala, and the following weekend, are planned to feature our heritage diesel locomotives, and more details of these will be available nearer the time.

Please note that, while every effort will be made to run the scheduled locomotive(s) on each day, we can not guarantee to be able to do so, and the Railway reserves the right to alter, cancel or suspend any train without notice. No liability is accepted for any loss, inconvenience or delay caused, either by having to operate with an alternative locomotive or by any alteration cancellation or suspension of the Railway's train services.
