Access from the car park to the Engine House

When You arrive ...

most of the car park is surfaced with limestone chippings;
the area nearest the Engine House building has an asphalt surface, and three marked bays for disabled parking;
there is level access to the front entrance of the Engine House building via a shallow paved ramp;
the front entrance door is kept open when the building is open.

Inside the shop and cafe area

there is level access throughout the ground floor of the building;
there are lifts to the first floor, and level access throughout that floor;
there are ladies’ and gentlemens’ toilets, and a toilet adapted for disabled users, with appropriate handrails and a baby changing unit;
this does not meet the "changing places" standard, as the building was built before that standard existed;
guide dogs and assistance dogs are allowed in the building, as are ordinary pets provided that they are kept under control;
breastfeeding is permitted in the building, and appropriate publicity is displayed to make this clear;
staff are trained to assist visitors who would have difficulty in opening interior doors;
the cafe area has separate tables and chairs, and high chairs are available.

there is level access throughout the main part of the display hall, but steps to access locomotive cabs;
there are some benches in the display hall;
there is level access to the station platform via a shallow paved ramp;
the platform has a smooth asphalt surface, and a strip of tactile paving between this and the smooth paving slabs at its edge;
there are some benches and tables on the platform, and under cover in the platform shelter.

The wheelchair ramp in use

a wheelchair ramp is carried on the train, and our guards are trained in its use, and generally to assist passengers in boarding or alighting;
two of our passenger coaches can accommodate motorised wheelchairs;
one has a balcony which can accommodate a non-motorised wheelchair;
guards are trained to provide adequate information to passengers.

at some special events goods brake vans are operated, which can not accommodate wheelchairs;
at some special events a railbus is operated, which can only accommodate a non-motorised wheelchair.

a path to the park

A path leading to Middleton Park

there are footpaths that lead towards Middleton Park;
access to these is level;
the condition of the footpaths varies considerably, but this is beyond our control.
