Leeds Classic Bus Runday
On Sunday 19th August 2018 the Middleton Railway will be participating in the 5th Leeds Classic Bus Runday, entitled "On the Buses", which this year is organised jointly by Black Prince Buses and Classic Connections (who operate the Wallace Arnold heritage fleet).
This year the buses will just run on one route, which will connect four of the City's museums, as follows:
- Thwaite Mills Watermill (which will host a display of vehicles, including classic cars);
- the Middleton Railway;
- Thackray Medical Museum (taking part for the first time); and
- Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills.
The route will also include Leeds City bus station (York Street stop F7 for buses towards Armley Mills, or stop F4 for buses towards the Middleton Railway and Thwaite Mills) and Leeds railway station (stop Z1 in Bishopgate Street for buses towards Armley Mills, or stop P5 in City Square for buses towards the Middleton Railway and Thwaite Mills).
All the participating museums, including the railway, will be open all day to receive visitors and all sites will allow free "park and ride" facilities for visitors.
The first bus services will depart at about 10.00. At the end of the day buses will connect with the 16.25 arrival, and the last ones will depart from the railway about 30 minutes later.
All these heritage services will be free and will be operated by a variety of vintage and classic buses. There will, however, be an A5 souvenir timetable that will be available to purchase on the day and volunteers will be encouraging visitors to purchase one. This is not obligatory, but the funds raised will help towards the high cost of staging the event.
