Heritage Diesel Services

We have an interesting collection of heritage diesel locomotives, one of which is illustrated below, and these services are arranged specially to give you opportunities to see some of them running.

For each of these heritage diesel days the normal timetable and fares will apply, and on each day one of the locomotives will be in operation.  To avoid the kinds of problems that have arisen on some previous occasions, where we had to cancel several of these events due to difficulties with availability of either the locomotives or the crew, we are only fixing the dates for these days a short time in advance, when we can be reasonably certain that we will be able to operate them as advertised.

We have six heritage diesel days scheduled for 2017, as follows.

  • Saturday 25th March 2017 - HE 1697 John Alcock.
  • Saturday 1st April 2017 - HC D577 Mary and (subject to availability of crews) HC D631 Carroll.
  • Saturday 22nd July 2017 - HE 1697 John Alcock.
  • Saturday 19th August - HE 1697 John Alcock.
  • Saturday 18th November - we had hoped to run HE 1697 John Alcock, but practical problems have arisen, and so it will now be HC D1373 Mersey Docks & Harbour Board No. 45.
  • Sunday 19th November - HC D1373 Mersey Docks & Harbour Board No. 45.

We do not expect to arrange any others this year.

Please note that while every effort will be made to run the scheduled locomotive(s) on each day, we can not guarantee to be able to do so, and the Railway reserves the right to alter, cancel or suspend any train without notice. No liability is accepted for any loss, inconvenience or delay caused, either by having to operate with an alternative locomotive or by an alteration cancellation or suspension of the Railway's train services.
